Contact Lenses

Contact Lens in eye2

Contact lenses are becoming extremely popular especially for those image conscious patients.

They are also of benefit to patients with high prescriptions and those involved in sporting activities where spectacles get in the way.

Even if you wear contact lenses it is vitally important that you have a pair of spectacles as a ‘back up’ when contact lenses cannot be worn because of eye infections, hay fever etc.

Eye Colour

Contact lenses can be used to change the colour of your eyes and you can have different colours for different days of the week, or months of the year if you feel like a change.

If you are interested in trying contact lenses you will need to have had an up to date eye examination. We recommend that this is within the last year. When you book in for an appointment with our optometrist they will advise you on different types of lenses and advise on the correct lens for you.

If you have not had your eyes examined with us before, we will need to see your latest spectacle prescription so please remember to bring this with you. If you have worn contact lenses before it is very helpful if you can bring in details of your current lenses too. Both of these pieces of information are also useful to us if we are examining your eyes for spectacles, as it helps us to see if your eyes are changing.

A wide range of contact lenses are now available from daily disposables that are worn once then discarded, through to lenses that can be worn twenty four hours a day.

Not everyone is suitable for every type of lens and this will be discussed at your consultation.

We will give you full tuition on how to handle your lenses and how to clean and disinfect them. Hygiene is important as when you wear contact lenses you are putting a foreign body in your eye.
